4 Reasons Why I’m Glad My IG Account Got Hacked & Deleted Last Week — From a Social Media Manager

Anyone that knows me, knows that sneakers are a weakness of mine, which is why, on 1/1/22, when I received an email and a DM from a scammer saying that they were a recruiter for the brand Bleacher Report (more specifically their kicks division) I ignored multiple flags.

The scammer claimed that they simply wanted me take photos of some shoes and that I would get to keep them as payment.

After back and forth and a lot of skepticism, they sent me images of the shoes I’d get to select and a link to the Bleacher Report kicks website (or what I thought was the website) to learn more.

After a quick search around, I realized the site was fake but by then it was too late.

The account I had been messaging disappeared immediately and moments later I realized that my Twitter and Instagram accounts had been hacked.

Thankfully, I got my Twitter account back after a few days. As for Instagram, I was smart enough to quickly set up 2-factor authentication before I was kicked out.

That helped me get my account back after a few hours.
