Here’s What Happened When I Decided To Shut My Phone Off For Half A Day

My job is incredibly demanding as founder & creative director of social media/content studio, The Creative Exchange.

Now, being in a.) startup world & b.) social media land I am never off my phone. I can’t be, but I am not complaing, I love it. I get messages constantly tweets, instagram notification, 1000+ emails, and then of course the texts, but from time to time it can get overwhelming.

So, overworked and overwhelmed, I did the unthinkable. I actually turned off my phone.

Ok, ok, this may not seem like a big deal but think, really think hard here, when is the last time you actually TURNED OFF your phone? I am not talking about puttting it on “airplane mode” or putting it in the far corners of your room so it is out of site, I mean legit hold down the power button until you are hit with a Black Mirror 🤔 🤔 🤔.

Here’s what I learned:

  • The world still spins on it’s axis
  • I was WAYYY more productive than I had been hours before
  • My mind was clearer, almost freer in many ways, to dream, think, & strategize
  • Grabbing for my phone is a random habit. I caught myself trying to grab for a nonexisting phone on far too many occasions (luckily it was tucked away in a far corner of my room and off)
  • There is more time in the day than I like to admit to…get things done…

SO, dare to turn off your phones. You may find yourself…being productive enough to just sit around and eat a meal, uninterupted.

Sincerely,

Charles aka Chad
