How Being Told “I am not creative enough,” Has Fueled My Creative Work

I’ve been told on quite a few occasions while interviewing for various roles that I couldn’t move forward with x company because I wasn’t creative enough or projects (via application process) I had put together were not creative enough.

Early on, when I heard those things it created massive waves of cognitive dissonance because I had a rolodex of creative ideas that I have concepted, designed, created for myself which is public for any and everyone to see across my digital presence.

Now-a-days, I am grateful for those comments and to God for allowing me to receive them, even though they weren’t what I wanted to hear at the time.

What initially appeared like roadblocks, thankfully haven’t stopped me from learning on my own.

Proactivity is an amazing trait and, although I’m not classically trained in photography, mixed media, photoshop, lightroom, art direction, but I am curious and passionate about them all.

So, I study and learn.

I think people forget the power of curiosity and the importance of having a genuine interest in things. Those superpowers will take you farther than almost anything else.
