The Injury That Changed My Life Forever

On October 17th 2020, I had my first major injury and it sent my world down a path that I never saw coming.

I had just come back to NYC from a business trip that morning. I knew that I needed to blow off some steam so, after landing at 11am, I dropped my stuff off at my studio and ran a block to the closest soccer field.

Soccer had become my escape from a crazy work life. I stretched, practiced, dribbled and shot for nearly 2.5 hours. The last 5 minutes would go on to alter my world.

To take a large step back, I was wearing indoor soccer shoes on an outdoor field and the field was very very bad. So with that in mind the following scenario was poor judgement.

With the goal at my back I flipped the ball up and tried to shoot while turning. The upper part of my left leg turned and the lower part did not (because I slipped) and my knee cap momentarily popped out of place and all sorts of discomfort followed.

After writhing in pain for 10 min I knew something was seriously wrong. I hobbled off the field grabbed my stuff and limped back to my apartment. Honestly, it must have been God that got me home because, I didn’t know it at the time, but I had torn my acl, two sides of my meniscus and sprained my mcl.
