The Quote That Has Gone On To Define My Life
One of the most impactful quotes anyone has ever mentioned to me was,
“How you do anything is how you do everything.”
I don’t remember who said it to me nor where the quote originated but it stuck with me instantly.
At the time I thought it was just a catchy saying, but as I got older and wiser the deeper meaning of the quote began to open up.
To me, it means that the habits your form in doing the most mundane of tasks, ultimately foreshadow or determin how you’ ll handle tasks with larger responsibilities.
The quote is more about the small things we tend to miss that are forming in our lives, values, habits, and characteristics.
As a kid, my dad would repeatedly remind me the importance of being excellent in all I did. It wasn’t so much for “the,” but for me to begin building the habits that would eventually follow me into my relationships, my workplace, and my passions.
It’s those little things that make a difference not only in my personal life, but also as a professional (creative & strategist). Another quote I often rely on, as I design is,
“It’s the little things that make it luxury.”
This again harkens back to the gravity of getting the little things (for design purposes: coloring, shape, angle, size of logo, etc.) right.
Because, when those are right, the quality in the rest of end product or your personal life will shine through with no extra work necessary.
